ADC and World Privacy Forum debate digital inclusion of children and women within C20 Summit

On October 5, the Association for Civil Rights and World Privacy Forum held an event within the C20 Summit, aiming to address the digital inclusion of women and children. The meeting was attended by around 160 people and ADC was represented by its Director, Valeria Milanes. Throughout the conference, experts from different parts of the world exchanged their knowledge and experiences.

«What is being debated here are some of the most important topics relating to the G20, but as to women and children. there is still much more to do and consider,» pointed out Milanes. In addition, she expressed her hopes that the matters discussed during the event «will serve as input for government officials, not only at the present moment but for the next edition… We will have the chance to continue addressing this issue, so as to help women and children, as well as improve digitalization in general,» she added.

The main focus of the discussion was the role of digital technology as an aid for women and children to fully access their civil, political, cultural, economic, and social rights. It started from the assumption that digitalization has intensified and made a direct impact on the rights of these two groups in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event, titled «Furthering new opportunities and inclusion of women and children in a digitized world», was attended by Pam Dixon (World Privacy Forum, USA), Fauzia Viqar (Rah Center for Management & Development – RCMD, Pakistan), Ugonma Nwankwo (Center for Global Development, USA), Kemly Camacho (Sula Batsú, Costa Rica), Gabreal Odunsi (Paradigm Initiative, Nigeria), Miftah Fadhli (Institute for Policy Research and Advocacy – ELSAM, Indonesia) and Pedro Hartung (Alana, Brazil).

Following the Summit, the C20 issued a press release urging G20 states to take concrete and immediate action on the need for inclusion and to fight inequality around the globe.
