ADC speaks on regional advocacy to CSO representatives

ADC’s Executive Director, Valeria Milanes, took part in a workshop organized by Derechos Digitales on February 4, where she spoke on regional advocacy and made recommendations for civil society organizations. The meeting, named «Advocacy for digital rights at a regional level», aimed to share knowledge and experiences to position civil society on the subject and propose practical recommendations. ADC was called to participate due to its ample record and expertise in the field.

«We have played a part in Inter-American Court of Human Rights cases, in thematic hearing cases. It is key that we do this with other organizations, so as to be prepared for quick reaction and find out who we can engage,» reflected Milanés. After pointing out that one of the obstacles faced by international organizations related to these issues is the speed with which they change, she shared information and her experience in advocacy within the IACHR commissions to promote agendas of interest for CSOs.

«I deem it essential to understand that once an issue is raised, it echoes in different spaces at the same time. Through our work, we should introduce that issue in as many forums as possible and provide information on it. A slightly broader view is useful, in my opinion, when considering such issues,» she said.

Milanés shared the panel named «Spaces for regional advocacy and recommendations for CSOs» with Eduardo Bertoni, Representative of the Regional Office for South America of the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights and former head of the Agency for Access to Public Information (AAIP).
